We had a marvellous time at Family Tree Live!, Alexandra Palace, London over 26^th and 27^th April. Raising awareness of Name & Place and how the app can manage and produce outcomes for a vast amount of diverse data to a wider audience, was made all the sweeter in such an iconic building. Our stand was busy for the entire time, with Howard conducting a steady stream of demos to interested family historians. Paul delivered a talk entitled ‘Publishing your family history research online – why and how?’, packed with tips for the show attendees. There was a genuine friendly feeling emanating from the buzz of like-minded individuals gathering together and sharing the joy of discovery. Old friends and colleagues were busy catching up and forging links with new contacts.

It was lovely to meet those who were able to attend and the team was energised by the enthusiasm shown by local historians and family history researchers alike with so many varied needs for the app.

An important part of being at the show was giving us the opportunity to hear what people needed to support their projects and these ranged from a single workhouse to a street, a village, family groups spread across countries to global One-Name Studies and DNA projects. Overall this time speaking to researchers with such exciting projects has reinforced just how much Name & Place is needed in the family and local history sphere.

We are closer to our imminent initial launch, and look forward to sharing more very soon.

Name & Place was born out of a need for a database robust enough to cope with the manipulation of historical data in varying formats for a local history study such as census, baptisms, marriages and burials, wills, deeds, manorial rentals, maps, old postcards, photographs and much more, using sources from across the globe.

Genealogist and professional software developer Paul Carter is leading the team to create an intuitive and exciting application which is easily searchable. It produces the coolest graphs which display the raw data to its full potential thus establishing migration, population and occupation trends for a whole community.

Name & Place is suited for a wide variety of history projects, as demonstrated by our user base: PhD history research projects, family history societies, naval historians, local historians, one-name studies, one-place studies and many more.
